The troupe was founded in 1950 by Mrs Hannah, then Mrs Nugent and Mrs Morley took over for a couple of years. In approx 1956/57 Mr Hutchinson became our principal, he was a Scotsman and named the troupe SPEKE BALMORAL. We joined the C.I.B Organisation and started going to competitions, competing against troupes such as Haltonians, Cotillion and Broadway, later the big competition would come from Wavertree Jesters and Columbia. Sadly, Mr Hutchinson died and the troupe was taken over by the one and only Morris Legend Mrs McBride (SALLY MAC). Mrs Mac's reign as principal was phenomenal, she took the troupe to the very top, everybody respected her and Speke Balmoral (Sally's Army), she set very high standards and took no messing about, but it was a very happy troupe and over the years we had so much fun, we used to go to Pontins for the weekend long before the weekend competitions started, happy days!!
Mrs Mac retired in 1990 and has sadly since passed away, the troupe struggled for a few years after Mrs Mac retired, but we fought tooth & nail to keep going, recent years has seen something of a revival, and with hard work, hopefully we will go from strength to strength.
